Matthew 3:11

 Matthew 3 v.11
"I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire."

What a statement from John! It gets me every time I read it because the humbleness of John and the acknowledgment of the sovereignty of Jesus combined are exactly what He's looking for. I love how John says "whose sandals I am not worthy to carry". I can just imagine the sandals of Jesus. He's starting His ministry, he's been hiding for so long, he could've been traveling, they were more than likely dirty, his dirty feet were on them, but somehow John is not worthy to carry His sandals.

John knew something that I want to know for the rest of my life. John knew the power of honor. He was the older cousin of Jesus, but he didn't mind that he was older, he knew that Jesus was greater. John ha already started his ministry when Jesus came along, but he knew that Jesus was greater. John knew he was preparing the way for the Most High! How wonderful it would be to live a life like that! To live in knowing that we are preparing the way of the Lord! We are not worthy to carry His sandals, but He has chosen us to be the light of the world, to love as He loves, so that when He knocks, the hearts of the ones around us will be open, because they wouldn't have only hear about Jesus, but they would see Him in us, as humble servants and loving friends.

He is the most incredible! I pray I am preparing the way of the Lord with the people He has placed in my life. I pray I never get in the way!
